Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘buzzing’ to hear his name sung by Man Utd fans after sacking

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watched Manchester United beat Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday and was “buzzing” to hear the travelling support singing his name.

Solskjaer was sacked as Red Devils boss after a disastrous run of results last week. Embarrassing defeats to Leicester, Liverpool and Man City ramped up the pressure on the Norwegian but a 4-1 Premier League loss to Watford proved to be the final nail in the coffin.

Michael Carrick is currently taking charge in a caretaker role and the former United midfielder led his side to a much-needed 2-0 away win over Villarreal in midweek that confirmed their place in the last 16.

During the game the fans who travelled to Castellon sung Solskjaer’s name and, as per the Talk of the Devils podcast, the former boss was said to be buzzing to hear he is still appreciated at Old Trafford.

Despite not always getting things right on the pitch, the former super-sub always maintained a strong relationship with United’s match-going fans, taking the interesting decision to give an emotional exit interview after having his contract terminated.

As for the club’s post-Solskjaer future, Carrick will remain in charge for the time being but Ralf Rangnick is expected to be handed the reigns until the end of the season, before being moved into a consultancy role for two further years.

90min understands that United remain focused on convincing Mauricio Pochettino to join the club in the summer with the former Spurs boss not happy at Paris Saint-Germain.

In recent interviews Pochettino has done little to quell speculation about his future and on the pitch his PSG side have failed to click thus far. The majority of his family also remain in England, making a Premier League return desirable.
