Arsenal sign experienced defender Simone Boye Sorensen from Bayern Munich

Arsenal have completed the signing of Bayern Munich and Denmark defender Simone Boye Sorensen, making the experienced 29-year-old their third new arrival of the summer as they prepare to re-enter the Women’s Champions League this season.

Boye has elite level experience in the Champions League from her time with Bayern, Rosengard and Brondby, while she also played for Denmark in the final of Euro 2017.

The centre-back previously played under new Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall at Rosengard.

“It feels really good to be here. I needed a new start and I’m grateful that Arsenal reached out to me. I’m very excited to get started. It’s been a while coming now so I’m looking forward to it,” Boye told her new club’s official website.

Eidevall commented: “Simone is an experienced defender who bring a strong attitude and mentality to the team on and off the pitch. I am sure that she will be a great fit to the squad and we are looking forward to working with her.”

Arsenal have already signed forwards Mana Iwabuchi and Nikita Parris from Aston Villa and Lyon respectively since the end of last season, bringing enormous quality and experience up front.

Both players are currently involved in the Olympics in Japan. Iwabuchi scored for Japan on matchday one to rescue a point with a late equaliser against Canada, while Parris came off the bench for Great Britain in their 2-0 win over Chile and played a part in the second goal.
