Tottenham are among the Premier League clubs interested in signing Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who experienced relegation for the second successive campaign during 2020/21.
The 23-year-old played every minute of every game for the Blades last season, but was unable to help stave off the drop in United’s second season back in the top flight.
Despite conceding 63 goals, Ramsdale impressed on the whole – earning a call-up to England’s provisional 33-man squad for this summer’s European Championships. He didn’t make the final 26, but he may have a future in the Premier League rather than dropping down into the second tier.
MailOnline Sport report that Tottenham are planning for life after Hugo Lloris, with the former World Cup winner about to enter the last year of his deal in north London. The 34-year-old has been at Spurs since 2012, but it’s thought that he will look to end his career in his native France.
Ramsdale has emerged as a potential target for Spurs as a result, but they may face competition for his signature from Wolves – who find themselves in a similar boat with their own ageing goalkeeper, Portugal number one Rui Patricio.
Tottenham’s interest will perhaps depend on who they appoint as first-team manager, with the club still yet to appoint a successor to the sacked Jose Mourinho. Former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca is the current favourite to take over, with talks over a three-year contract believed to be ongoing.
That follows unsuccessful pursuits of former manager Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte, while there’s also been no joy in attempting to prise Erik ten Hag away from Ajax.
As for Wolves, they’ve just appointed a new head coach of their own – Bruno Lage, formerly of Braga, the man tasked with succeeding Nuno Espirito Santo in the Molineux hot seat.
For now, Ramsdale will play the waiting game for England in case there’s an injury to Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson or Nick Pope – but he may end up being one of several players to leave Sheffield United now they are a Championship outfit once more.
