Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann have both been declared fit ahead of France’s Euro 2020 opener against Germany on Tuesday.
Benzema was forced off during his side’s final warm-up game against Bulgaria, while Griezmann suffered a calf injury several days ago. The knocks forced the La Liga pair to sit out of training, raising doubts over their availability for the Germany game.
However, manager Didier Deschamps put those concerns to bed in an interview with Telefoot (via France24).
When asked if the two forwards would be in contention for the fixture, he said: “Yes, it looks like it. Everyone took part at yesterday’s training session. We have two sessions left before the game, there shouldn’t be a problem.”
Benzema’s inclusion in the squad came as somewhat of a surprise. The Real Madrid forward went almost six years without receiving a cap, after he was allegedly involved in a plot to blackmail international teammate Mathieu Valbuena.

Despite this lengthy absence, his coach insisted that he has had no problems reintegrating into the squad. Appearing alongside Deschamps in front of the cameras he also gave an update on his fitness.
“If I resumed training with the squad yesterday it means I’ve got nothing amiss, no pain. Physically I feel good as I was training indoors, so I’m 100 percent.”
With their fitness confirmed Griezmann and Benzema could be fielded together against Germany. Les Bleus are many people’s favourites for Euro 2020.
They go into the competition with an incredible squad on paper and have tournament pedigree, winning the 2018 World Cup and also reaching the final of the last European Championship.
Saying that, they have been placed in the toughest group. France are joined in by holders Portugal, Germany and Hungary in Group F. Due to this, Deschamps will be desperate to get off to a good start on Tuesday.
