The La Liga is usually one of the most watched and competitive leagues in the world, as the big teams Real Madrid and Barcelona are usually battling it out like titans for the coveted trophy come the end of the season. However, this season does seem to be a whole lot different as for either of these two sides to win it from here would take a miracle and below we look at why that is.

The main reason is that Atletico Madrid have been virtually unstoppable the season and really look like a side that means business and want to lift the title come the end of the season. They currently find themselves top of the league, five points ahead of Real Madrid who are in second and they have two games in hands which is astonishing. Atletico have always been one of the best defensive sides in Spain over the past decade, as Diego Simeone has created an ethos at the club that defensive is just as important as attack and the players have bought into that over his career at the club. Jan Oblak has become one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the world during his time in the Spanish capital and winning the title this season will top that offer.
The next reason as to why we do think that Atletico will go on to win the title this season is down to the Luis Suarez factor who has been a revelation since his arrival from Barcelona last summer. The Catalonian giants obviously thought that the Uruguayan was finished at the top level but selling to a direct competitor was always going to bring trouble, especially as Suarez has played 18 games, scoring 16 goals and registering 2 assists which is the best return in the whole league. Although at Christmas we were doubting that Simeone and his side could keep up the form that they were on for the majority of the season, due to the faltering giants in Barcelona and Real Madrid, we are really starting to believe that this is Atletico’s year and that they will go on to lift the trophy come the end of the season. Not only that, but with the way they are playing, they might be worth watching in the Champions League where they always put up a good fight.
