All good things must come to an end, and after nearly four years unbeaten at Anfield, Liverpool’s proud home league record has bitten the dust.
Ashley Barnes’ penalty seven minutes from time was enough to secure all three points for Sean Dyche’s men, leaving Jurgen Klopp’s side six points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United.
Having opted to rest both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi were afforded their chance in the Liverpool front three, and it’s fair to say the latter didn’t cover himself in glory as he missed a gilt-edged opportunity to put his side 1-0 up on the stroke of half-time.

Haven’t scored in 3 league games and Divock Origi decides to go for a top corner finish when 1-vs-1. I’m tired.

With the first half ending in stalemate, the Reds continued to push throughout the second half, but in truth it was clear to see that they’d just ran out of ideas, and Burnley looked like heading for a hard-earned away point.
And then it happened. Barnes stole in and clipped the ball over Alisson, with the Brazilian ploughing through the Burnley frontman, giving Mike Dean no choice but to point to the spot.
The former Brighton forward coolly slotted home the spot kick, with the Clarets hanging on for a sensational win and ending Liverpool’s remarkable home league record.

Burnley end Liverpool’s extraordinary record of not losing a Premier League game at Anfield for almost 4 years. Mane loses his first ever home league game. Superb effort from Sean Dyche’s team who win at Anfield for the first time in 46 years.

FT: #LFC 0 Burnley 1: A hammer blow to Liverpool’s title hopes. Their 68-game unbeaten home league record stretching back to April 2017 is over. Barnes’ late penalty gives the Clarets the points. Huge problems for Klopp. His team look devoid of belief. Four games without a goal.

While Liverpool’s home record going up in smoke will of course grab the headlines, it seems the opponents who took said record are enjoying just as much of the limelight.
Dyches’ side had picked up just one away win in the league this season prior to their trip to Anfield – and even that came via a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang own goal – underlining just how much of an achievement their win over Liverpool is.

Liverpool’s record breaking home run in the Premier League bookended by defeats against Sam Allardyce and Sean Dyche. That is English football in a nutshell….

Still, there’s got to be something for Chelsea fans to smile about this season, even if it’s not their own team’s performances.
I’m starting to get worried about Liverpool taking Chelsea’s unbeaten home record…..they’re only 87 games from beating it now…

Chelsea’s 86-match home unbeaten record remains intact! Liverpool fall at match 68. No one will ever touch our record ever again! ?? pic.twitter.com/GCZTzhOE2Y

Liverpool losing means that Chelsea’s home record of 86 unbeaten will remain the best home record the premier league has ever seen and is another flashback of what we used to be, I miss these days.
It will never be beaten now. Beautiful. pic.twitter.com/YEVtra7DON
