Olivier Giroud Stalls on Lazio’s Contract Offer After Interest From Tottenham

Olivier Giroud is refusing to make a decision over his future next season after discovering Tottenham Hotspur were interested in his signature last month.

The Chelsea striker will become a free agent at the end of the season and Giroud has already been offered a pre-contract by Italian side Lazio, who are just one point behind Juventus in the Serie A title race.

The Telegraph reports Giroud won’t make a decision on Lazio’s offer until he known move about Tottenham’s interest, with the 33-year-old seemingly eager to continue his career in the Premier League.

Giroud was expected to leave Stamford Bridge last month after he’d attracted interest from Inter, who are managed by ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

In the end, a deal couldn’t get over the line, but Giroud now has the chance to commit to a move to Serie A at the end of the season with Lazio.

As far as Tottenham’s interest in Giroud goes, the club appears to see the France international as an ideal back up for Harry Kane and would look for the 33-year-old to take up a similar role to Fernando Llorente last season.

It’s unknown if Tottenham will rekindle their interest in Giroud at the end of the season, but it’s a deal which would cause quite the stir in north London due to his past at Arsenal.

The 33-year-old spent six years with the Gunners before being sold to Chelsea, making 253 appearances for the club where he scored 105 goals and claimed 41 assists.

Giroud also won three FA Cups and the same number of Community Shields during his spell at Arsenal, eventually moving on for £15m following the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It’s not mentioned how seriously Tottenham’s interest could be at the end of the season but the club are expected to at least discuss Giroud as a potential target.
