English League Two side Notts County have released former Newcastle United star Shola Ameobi.
The Nigeria international joined the Notts in December 2016 as a free agent and made 54 appearances across all competitions, scoring ten goals during his two-year stay.
In the 2017-18 season, the attacker helped Kevin Nolan’s men to a semi-final playoff spot where they lost 5-2 on aggregate to Coventry City.
The Meadow Lane outfit announced the departure of the forward as well as ten other players, namely: Adam Collin, Carl Dickinson, Mike Edwards, Jonathan Forte, Elliot Hodge, Nicky Hunt, Rob Milsom, Callum Saunders, Alan Smith and Curtis Thompson.
Reacting to the decision by the club, manager Nolan appreciated the efforts of the departing players.
“These decisions are some of the hardest, if not the hardest, we make,” Nolan told club website.
“I would like to put on record my thanks to all of the players who are moving on and wish them all the best for their future.
“I can’t thank the lads enough for their committed efforts in my first full season here.”
