Man City pre-season fixtures: Their complete summer tour & schedule

Pep Guardiola’s side will head to the United States to take part in the International Champions Cup this summer, with a Manchester derby waiting

There could be a few high-profile new faces in the Manchester City squad when they fly out to the United States for the International Champions Cup this summer.

City have already acquired the services of goalkeeper Ederson from Benfica and midfielder Bernardo Silva from Monaco, but their pursuit of former Juventus and Barcelona star Dani Alves hit a snag when the Brazilian joined Paris Saint-Germain.

However, with the likes of Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Alexis Sanchez also targets of Pep Guardiola’s, the coach could have a decidedly different squad at his disposal by the time their first friendlies arrive in July.

This is your complete guide to the fixtures awaiting City during pre-season.

Date Opponent Time (local / BST) Venue
Jul 20 Manchester United 20:30 / 02:30 NRG Stadium, Houston
Jul 26 Real Madrid 20:00 / 04:00 Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles
Jul 29 Tottenham 17:00 / 23:00 Nissan Stadium, Nashville
Aug 4 West Ham 14:00 / 15:00 Laugardalsvollur Stadium, Reykjavik

City have announced three friendlies in the International Champions Cup, which features a number of big clubs and will take place across several American cities, and one back in Europe.

Guardiola will first take his squad to Houston, Texas for a Manchester derby against United at NRG Stadium, the 71,795-capacity home of the NFL’s Houston Texans, on July 20.

They will then take a three-hour flight out to Los Angeles, California, to face Real Madrid at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum six days later.

Unlike many of the new, state-of-the-art venues selected for the ICC, the Coliseum is a huge bowl opened in the 1920s and holds 93,000 fans. It is the home of the USC Trojans college football team and will also serve the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams temporarily.

From there, City will fly four hours back to the east to Nashville, Tennessee, where they will close their ICC participation against Tottenham at Nissan Stadium on July 29. Over 69,000 fans can be accommodated at the home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

It should be noted that due to the time difference, the matches against United and Madrid will actually kick off in the early hours of the following days (July 21 and 27 respectively).

Once they are done in the USA, City return to Europe for their annual ‘Super Match’. That will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland this year on August 4, and is against Premier League opposition in West Ham.

City have no Community Shield or early European commitments so their first competitive game of the season will be in the Premier League, away to Brighton. It will be a televised game on the evening of Saturday, August 12, with a kick-off set for 17:30.

With the West Ham match acting as a bridge between the ICC and the start of the league campaign, then, City’s pre-season schedule may well be complete. They only played four friendlies during Guardiola’s first summer in charge.

Guardiola’s men secured direct qualification for the Champions League group stage, so their continental action will not begin until September.
