Marseille coach Elie Baup admitted it was a disastrous night in Ligue 1 as his side was thrashed 3-0 by Lorient on Sunday.
Baup’s men missed the chance to go second on the table as their inconsistent form continued at the Stade Velodrome.
The rot set in for Marseille when Charles Kabore was dismissed in the 38th minute, earning a second yellow card after fouling Jeremie Aliadiere to concede a penalty.
Aliadiere converted from the spot to put Lorient ahead, before goals from Benjamin Corgnet and Kevin Monnet-Pacquet secured a famous win for the visitors.
“Obviously, until then [Kabore’s red card], almost nothing happened. We had all the possession although we weren’t a real threat. Then we should have been awarded a penalty. Then there’s a double punishment. There’s a penalty against us, a red card,” Baup said.
“Their second goal was unbelievable. And that’s it. It’s gone against us. It was a disastrous night.
“We need to stop playing this kind of game. There are too many complicated situations, we must learn to be more efficient and consistent for a series of games and we can’t do it for the moment. That’s it,” he said.
Third-placed Marseille have the chance to rebound on Thursday when they travel to strugglers SC Bastia.
