Danny Simpson jokes Leicester title-winners were ‘still pissed’ for famous Everton victory

Danny Simpson has joked that Leicester City’s title winners were “still pissed” when they put Everton to the sword in the game after they secured the Premier League trophy.

Foxes striker Jamie Vardy famously invited his teammates over to watch Chelsea vs Tottenham, where anything other than an away win would have guaranteed them top spot.

Leicester could have won the title the day prior, but their draw against Manchester United meant they were reliant on the Blues to get the job done early.

“The day before his party we were playing Man Utd. So for me and Danny Drinkwater, we’re going back to Old Trafford to win the Premier League,” Danny Simpson told the On the Judy podcast.

“It’s the most scared I’ve ever been in my life, like it hit home. All my friends and family had tickets and we could actually win it at Old Trafford, it’s mad.

“We had a party planned for that night, you know, just in case. Obviously we drew so we didn’t win it that day. But I’m actually glad how it happened.”

With Leicester requiring the right result from a game later dubbed the ‘Battle of the Bridge’, Vardy invited his teammates over and Simpson revealed that it was an unforgettable evening… and an unforgettable week leading up to the Everton match.

“The next day Vards text everyone saying: ‘get to my house’. A Vardy party as it is. At half-time you should have seen the state of us, heads down, it’s over. Then obviously [Gary] Cahill scores and then [Eden] Hazard. After that it was such an emotion. We were all crying, hugs, celebrated.”

“And we started drinking, celebrating all week. That Everton game we played, I swear we were still pissed! It was probably the best we played.”

Leicester were indeed impressive against the Toffees. On a emotional day in which they were presented with the Premier League trophy, they romped to a 3-1 victory thanks to a brace from Jamie Vardy and another strike from long-serving midfielder Andy King.
