Eden Hazard has returned to the Real Madrid squad for their Champions League game against Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday.

The Belgian has not featured for Los Blancos so far this season due to an unspecified muscle injury. This is a separate complaint to the ankle problem that plagued him during his first campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu.

During the 2019/2020 season, Hazard only featured 22 times in all competitions, chipping in with just one goal along the way. His performances fell well short of what was expected from a player Real signed for a staggering £103m.

The 29-year-old will be hoping for much better this term and he could plays his first minutes of the season against Gladbach in midweek. Real confirmed that he would be travelling with their 21-man squad via Twitter, but it is not yet clear if he is fit enough to feature.

With or without Hazard, it is a big game for Zinedine Zidane’s side after they lost their opening Champions League tie to a Shakhtar Donetsk side significantly weakened by coronavirus absences. Real looked off the pace throughout and were deservedly beaten 3-2 by the Ukrainian side.

As for Gladbach, they played out a 2-2 draw with Inter in gameweek one and will be confident of securing a major scalp when they take on Zidane’s up and down side

Real’s defence of their La Liga title has got off to a better start, mind you. They comfortably triumphed in the first Clasico of the season this past weekend, as goals from Fede Valverde, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric cancelled out an Ansu Fati strike to give Zidane a much needed 3-1 victory at Camp Nou.

Victory has relieved some of the pressure on Zidane – something he always seems to be under if Real don’t win – which appeared to be building, when a number of Spanish publications suggested that he’d be relieved of his duties before the season is out.

This great result helped relieve some on the pressure from Zidane with several reports suggesting that Real could relieve the Frencham of his duties before the season is out.
