Argentina striker Mauro Icardi has become the most recent high profile player at PSG to fall out with manager Thomas Tuchel.
Icardi was aggrieved at not being involved against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last Tuesday.
PSG would go on to lose to the German outfit thanks to two goals from Norway’s teenage sensation Erling Håland, and their front three on the night were Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Ángel Di María.
According to SoccerLink via AS, when Icardi learned that he was not a starter, he proceeded to throw chairs on the floor, but did not speak of his frustration further until the team returned to France.
It’s not the first that Tuchel has made an unpopular decision among PSG’s star players. World Cup winner Mbappé has expressed his annoyance at being substituted a number of times, most recently in PSG’s 5-0 league win over Montpellier.
Icardi wasn’t the only player irritated with Tuchel’s decisions last Tuesday. Neymar was also irked by his manager’s suggestion that he was off the pace in the first leg of their Champions League tie, having been rested for their prior Ligue 1 fixture.
Icardi started the season in electric form, firing in nine goals from his first 11 outings in Ligue 1, and his agent and wife Wanda Nara spoke recently about his future, with PSG retaining the option to buy him in the summer following the completion of his loan from Inter.
“I really don’t know [where Icardi will be next season]. With football you never know. Mauro will choose and we will follow him.”
With matches against Lyon and Marseille and the second leg against Dortmund to come in March, it remains to be seen if Icardi can force his way back into the reckoning for PSG’s biggest fixtures.
