Villarreal v Sevilla: Yellow Submarine to extend home goalscoring run

Two sides with Champions League ambitions meet on Sunday evening when Villarreal host Sevilla in La Liga.

Villarreal’s impressive form since the arrival of new manager Javi Calleja continued on Thursday night with the Yellow Submarine recording a 3-2 win at Astana in the Europa League, and the result means they are unbeaten in the nine La Liga and European games they have played with Callejas at the helm.

Sevilla, for their part, enjoyed a dramatic 3-3 draw with Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday and head into matchday six knowing that avoiding defeat at Maribor should see them progress, whilst domestically the Andalusians have also improved a little in recent weeks after a bad run – although they have lost their last four matches away from home in La Liga.

The visitors, though, are in the middle of the toughest run of away games imaginable, with the side having lost at Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Valencia and Barcelona and facing trips to Villarreal, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad before the end of the year.

That means Sevilla will have had to face the entire top seven in La Liga one after another away from home, which may go some way to explaining why they have so far picked up few points away from the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.

Against a Villarreal team who have won four and drawn one of their five home league games this term, Sevilla could once more struggle and Paddy Power offer an away win on Sunday night at 2/1 (3.00).

The hosts, meanwhile, are priced at 11/8 (2.38), which looks extremely attractive given their form and as well as Sevilla’s struggles on the road, with the draw available at 23/10 (3.30)

As previously mentioned, Villarreal have been extremely impressive in their matches at the Estadio de la Ceramica this season, scoring over 1.5 goals in six of their seven matches there, and a repeat is priced at 6/5 (2.20).

Sevilla for their part have conceded two goals in three of their last four away matches in the league, and on Sunday they will come up against one of La Liga’s most in-form strikers in Cedric Bakambu – who boasts eight goals in nine games.

Furthermore, this selection has paid out in 17 of Villarreal’s last 23 home league matches and the price offered seems like excellent value for the hosts to score at least twice.
