The debut Goal Syndicate correctly predicted 12 of the 15 legs in the 1X2 Pick 15 last weekend, falling agonisingly short. This week we’re aiming to go even further with our selections.
In a near perfect Saturday for our Syndicate, we nailed eight out of the first nine legs with Derby’s 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage the only result to let us down on the day.
With another £800K up for grabs this weekend, it’s time to dust ourselves down and go again.
What’s more, Goal readers can grab a piece of the action by contributing to the Syndicate!
Here’s a look at some of our selections and the thinking behind them for a shot at Saturday’s £800,000 jackpot.
Swansea v Bournemouth – Away win
Paul Clement may have saved Swansea from the drop last season but the Welsh club are really struggling of late. It’s now four Premier League defeats on the bounce for Swansea and two without so much as a goal.
Bournemouth though, have sparked into life in recent weeks. Eddie Howe has seen his side pick up four wins from their last five in all competitions with the only blip being a credible 1-0 defeat to Chelsea. The Cherries have beaten Newcastle and Stoke in their previous two away games and should make it a hat-trick at the Liberty Stadium.
Hull City v Bristol City – Draw or Away win
Far from adapting to life in the Championship, Hull City could be sucked into another relegation battle on the evidence of their first few months back in the second tier. At home the Tigers have played nine, won three, drawn two and lost four but more recently it’s just one win in their previous five home league games.
Bristol City on the other hand, are flying and look genuine play-off contenders. The visitors are aiming for a ninth away game without defeat, a run stretching back to the 12th of August.
Sheff United v Birmingham – Home win
Sheffield United are just two points behind Championship leaders Wolves, a great achievement for any side. At home the Blades have played nine matches and won seven of them.
Birmingham though, are nervously looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone. Prior to Wednesday’s trip to Middlesbrough the Blues had lost seven of their eight away games this season and another fruitless trip looks to await them at Bramall Lane.
Liverpool v Chelsea – Home win or Draw
It’s tough to back either side with too much confidence due to how well they’re playing at the moment plus the unknowns of midweek Champions League trips. With that in mind it makes sense to cover two outcomes in this match.
Liverpool have a solid recent record against Chelsea, they’re unbeaten against the London side at Anfield since November 2014. However, five of the last seven head-to-head games (excluding friendlies) have finished level after 90 minutes so it’s worth keeping another draw onside in the Syndicate.
Valencia v Barcelona – Away win
This game sees the top two in La Liga going toe-to-toe and there’s not a Madrid team in sight! Valencia have been very impressive in the early going but face a huge step up in quality against a Barcelona team who have been almost flawless in Spain this term.
Ernesto Valverde’s side have dropped just two points all season and their defence, which has only conceded four times in 12 games thus far, could be enough to secure another three points for the Catalan giants at the Mestalla.
