Kenedy and Matt Miazga are expected to leave Chelsea on loan but they remain part of the club’s contingency plans if they fail to sign any defenders this summer, Goal understands.

Watford’s season-long loan offer for Kenedy remains on the table while Miazga has two offers from unnamed Premier League clubs, but Antonio Conte has decided to delay their departures after initially instructing them to find moves away from Stamford Bridge.

Kenedy and Miazga are hopeful their loan moves will go through but could be forced to wait up until the final hours of the transfer window as Chelsea face missing out on their main targets which include Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessio Romagnoli.

Conte has had defenders on his shortlist all summer and is worried about both a lack of quality and quantity in defence, but there is still hope that a deal can materialise before August 31 at 23:00 BST when the English transfer window closes.

John Terry, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta are Chelsea’s only fit senior defenders, while Kurt Zouma is injured and back-ups including Ola Aina have minimal first-team experience.
