RUMOURS: Corluka rejected Bayern Munich move

The former Tottenham and Manchester City defender turned down a move to the Bundesliga giants, fearing he’d be left in limbo when Pep Guardiola moved to the Etihad Stadium

Vedran Corluka rejected the overtures of Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich during the January transfer window due to fears over his long-term future, according to Sportske novosti.

Bayern’s defensive options have been reduced by the serious injuries recently suffered by Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez, while Mehdi Benatia is yet to return to the first team squad following the various muscle injuries which have ruled him out of action since early December.

Guardiola is reported to have viewed the versatile former Tottenham defender, 30, as the ideal candidate to provide cover but Corluka, who now plays for Lokomitv Moscow, was concerned that the Spaniard’s summer departure to Manchester City would leave him in limbo.

Knocked back by Corluka, Bayern subsequently signed Serdar Tasci on loan from Spartak Moscow on deadline day, but the Germany international missed his scheduled unveiling due to a head injury he suffered during his first training sessions with his new club.
