Tottenham have swooped to sign defender Federico Fazio from La Liga side Sevilla.

The north London club have acted quickly to sign a new centre-back after Michael Dawson ended his nine-year association with Spurs by joining Hull City on Tuesday.

Fazio, who has penned a four-year deal at White Hart Lane, plied his trade at Sevilla since January 2007 and won the Copa del Rey and UEFA Europa League during his time at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

“I’m really happy to be here at this club, this great club with very good players. I’m really happy to be here,” said the 27-year-old.

“I come to Tottenham because I think it’s a very good team, a very good club, very good fans.”

“This is a great club and I’m very happy to be here.”

Fazio, who made 194 appearances for Sevilla, has been capped twice by Argentina and was part of the country’s side that won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2007 and Olympic gold in Beijing a year later.

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino has been busy adding to his squad during the transfer window, with full-back Ben Davies and goalkeeper Michel Vorm having arrived from Swansea City, while defender Eric Dier joined from Sporting Lisbon.
